New Years reflection
THis month we continued on the sorties of modern heroes. How Onokwo either was a hero to some or wasn't to others. I personally do not see him a being hero but i can see him as being a good role modle. He worked his was up from nothing and ended up being one very powerful figure head in his village. He had a successful harvest every year and had many wives. I personally wish to be as successful as he was and be able to provide for my family. But i would never be ruled the way he was, he was ruled with greed wanting to be the best feeling that he was superior to everyone else. Those are to me very selfish and sick views of your fellow man. So to me he was not a hero at all. He was ruled my selfish desires and ended up not caring about his family as much ad a father and husband should he was even thought to be harsh in his own culture. It just seems very wrong to me personally

Turkey and reflection
This month is the official start of the christmas season. It brings a time of merriment and joy for many people. But for others it brings sad thoughts that bring them to question their existence. Weather their life has any meaning at all or are they just there to exist and nothing more. This ties in with the questions we answered from Miller and Aristotle. Doth of these views were introduced to us on how to view life. I have been doing thins since I was about 8. So it is interesting to see how the differences and experiences in life alter those views.

All Hallows eve
During pagan tomes Halloween was celebrated to ward off evil spirits. The children had to wear masks in order to confuse the spirits. This ties in with the poem Beowolf which took place during pagan times. Beowolf is considered a hero even though all he did was use his strength to break why ever got in his way. To me thats not a hero, a hero is someone who shows humility, has power but knows when to use it, uses different ways to find solutions out of problems. Unlike Oedipus which killed a man on the street and only cared about the prophecy, after he saved his people from the sphinx. To me a hero is someone who does a job that requires courage and then they do not need thanks to keep putting themselves in harms way to save strangers. So i have a different definition of hero than the traditional sense but who ever said i was normal

September
This month we talked a bit about satire. I have always found this topic to be very funny with the way people portray this. Weather it be in the Onion, an internet site that makes fun of policies in the government, or in the Colbert Report in which it too makes fun of politics but keeps you informed of the topics of today. I think a modest proposal was one of the funniest things I have read as satire. Even though it was a low satire it got its point across about poverty and overpopulation in Ireland. It might just be me but I think in todays society people would have taken that piece of satire as a literal idea and trie him for child abuse. We also talked in class a little bit about James Joyce a satirical author who also was from Ireland. He had a book published called the Dubliners which is all satirical stories. I don't think a book like that has been published in several years. I have always loved reading a store and then finding out tis a satire and re-reading it again to see all the points I have missed before. However i don't think i would be able to write a satire because i can never think of symbols or a topic to write about. But if i had too then i might be able too.
